Imphal, August 22 (EMN): In one of the highest level marathon meeting of Christian leaders in Manipur, on Tuesday resolved to appeal to “give a dignify burial” of mortal remains of a housewife belonging to a Catholic family. The Christians leaders, pastors representing various denominations took a resolution in this regard during their marathon meeting at the Seventh-day Adventists Church in Imphal this afternoon.
Forty-two year-old Rita Haorei died on August 7 but her body has been still lying in the campus of Catholic church in Litan, a village located about 40 km north of Imphal in Ukhrul district, as her mortal remains were not allowed to be buried in Leingangching village on the ground that her family had been ex-communicated and banished seven years ago for “violating the village norms”.
However Rita’s husband Yangmi Haorei has been refusing to bury the body anywhere else other than his native village Leingangching. After a long deliberation on the issue, the meeting resolved to appeal to resolve the issue of Leingangching amicably by addressing the core issues and give a dignify burial to late Rita Haorei.
The press statement was issued by All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), Joint Secretary Lungaichun.gpou Gonmei on August 22. The meeting which was attended by Convenor KR Mashangva of Joint Action Committee (JAC) demanding burial of Rita Haorei’s mortal remains besides Archbishop Dominic Lumon, Manipur Baptist Convention Secretary General W Konghar, AMCO President Prim Vaiphei, Timothy Phaomei of Love Manipur Organisation, Dr Mathew Kamei of All Manipur Christian Union, L Iboyaima of Presbyterian churches and others has appealed for peaceful coexistence of all denominations amongst the Christian in Manipur besides refraining from negative remarks against Christian denomination or any other in social media and print media.
Appealing to all Christian to remember in prayer for all the parties involved to come to an amicable solution, the Christian leaders meet also resolved that a high level religious group led by AMCO will be visiting Leingangching village to meet the concerned village authority on August 28.
On August 17, a peace rally was also organised in Imphal under the aegis of Catholic bodies and JAC demanding justice and burial of mortal remains of Rita.
