Chokri Chakhesang Literature Board organises first phase seminar on Chokhri language and usages in Chozuba and Phek town.

DIMAPUR — The Chokri Chakhesang Literature Board (CCLB) organised the first phase of a one-day seminar on ‘Chokri jü mu küsӧzhoko’ (Chokri language and its usages) on September 20. The event took place at the Vamuzo Memorial Hall in Chozuba town for the Chozuba range and at the CPO Conference Hall in Phek town for the Phek area.
According to an update from the board, the seminars aimed to promote the Chokri language in Chokri-speaking regions and saw enthusiastic participation from all village councils, school teachers, church representatives and student bodies.
It stated that a total of 112 participants from Chozuba area and 85 from Phek area demonstrated a collective commitment to the preservation of literary and cultural heritage.

The seminar featured presentations from resource persons discussing the status of language development, highlighting ongoing efforts and challenges in sustaining the linguistic heritage. The discussions emphasised the importance of the mother tongue, reflecting on cultural identity and strategies for language preservation and promotion, in alignment with various language policies.
It added that the community leaders noted the urgent need for language development and sought government intervention to support the initiatives. Participants engaged in meaningful dialogue on fostering and safeguarding the linguistic heritage of the Chokri language.
It mentioned that the seminars represented significant steps toward promoting the Chokri language and encouraging active community participation. Meanwhile, it informed that the second phase of the seminar for the Chokri area and central Chakhesang area would be announced after the monsoon season.
