DIMAPUR — The Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) on Saturday organised an awareness programme through flash-mob performances to promote responsible solid waste management and four-way waste segregation.
The programme, held in observance of Swachhata Hi Seva and in compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, featured students of the Chümoukedima Dance & Fit Studio performing at three locations—Saturday Market, Jack & Jill Shopping Mall and CT Square, a DIPR report stated.
T Lemlila Sangtam, ADC and Executive Officer of the Chümoukedima Town Council, said the initiative was aimed at making solid waste management a civic-minded and accountability-driven public responsibility.
She emphasised that effective implementation of the SWM Rules requires the active participation and cooperation of citizens.
She also stressed the importance of collective responsibility in keeping the town clean and adhering to the “Polluter Pays” principle, under which those responsible for generating pollution and waste are expected to bear appropriate responsibility for its management.
The awareness programme encouraged citizens to adopt responsible waste-management practices, including segregation at source, reduction of waste generation and proper disposal.
The CTC called upon citizens, commercial establishments, institutions and other stakeholders to extend their cooperation towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Chümoukedima.
