DIMAPUR — The Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) has issued a ban on the sale and use of firecrackers and single-use plastics (SUPs) within its jurisdiction.
In an order dated December 16, Lhousito Khro, chairman of CTC, stated that the ban was imposed to mitigate adverse effects on the environment, air quality, and public health, and to minimise the generation of garbage for a pollution-free town.
The order cautioned that to ensure compliance, there will be regular checking and patrols, and violators of the ban will be subject to fines and penalties.

Residents have been encouraged to celebrate in a safe and eco-friendly manner by exploring alternative ways to mark the occasion, such as lighting lamps, participating in cultural events, or spending quality time with loved ones.
All ward GBs and chairmen have been directed to disseminate information for public involvement and to ensure strict enforcement of the ban in their respective wards and colonies.
