- DIMAPUR — Taking
into consideration the exponential pace of development coupled with an increase
of population in Chümoukedima town, the treasurer of Nationalist Democratic
Progressive Party (NDPP), Dr. John Murry, opined that Chümoukedima Town Council
(CTC) cannot remain as a town council but deserved upgrade to a municipal
council.
- “Time will come very soon when Chümoukedima Town Council
will be converted into a municipality,” state Dr. Murry while speaking at the
thanksgiving service of Longshi Kikon, government nominated member of CTC, held
at LUC hall in Chümoukedima town on February 3. He expressed optimism CTC would
soon be upgrade to municipal could.
- Dr. Murry expressed gratitude to Nagaland Chief Minister,
Niephiu Rio; advisor of Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Zhaleo Rio,
and senior vice president of NDPP, Charles Sekhose, for supporting a member
from the Lotha community to serve as a government nominated councilor for the
development of Chümoukedima district.
- He added that the nomination of Longshi Kikon as councilor
was a recognition of over 5000 Lotha population in Chümoukedima town. He has
sought sincere cooperation and active participation from all the Lotha
intellectuals, members and elders in shaping Chümoukedima district for the
welfare of the people.
- Meanwhile, Longshi Kikon has thanked Dr. John Murry for his
wisdom and unceasing effort for the welfare of the people. He sought the
prayers, cooperation and guidance of all the intellectuals and elders as he
undertakes the mantle to serve the people.
- A DIPR report stated that chairman of CLH, chairman of CTC,
chairperson of CLEE, chairman of NTC and several speakers congratulated Longshi
Kikon.
- James Kikon chaired the programme, while senior pastor of
LBC, Chümoukedima, N Thungchio Lotha, said the invocation prayer.
- The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by N
Ekonthung Kikon.
