DIMAPUR — In response to growing concerns over safety and infrastructure stability, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chümoukedima, Polan John, has issued a directive restricting various activities along National Highway 29 (NH-29) and its adjoining areas.
The notice, issued on Friday, follows reports that a number of unauthorised operations—including quarrying, earth cutting, construction, establishment of temporary stalls, and other land related activities—are being carried out near the highway, including within the Right of Way (RoW).
According to the notice, such activities pose a significant risk to the structural integrity of the highway and endanger public safety by increasing the likelihood of soil erosion, landslides, blockades, encroachments, subsidence, and fatal accidents.

“In view of the above and in the interest of safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring commuter as well as public safety, all individuals, village councils, and stakeholders are hereby advised to refrain from undertaking any quarrying, earth cutting, setting up temporary vendor stalls, or similar activities near NH-29 that may adversely impact the stability and safety of the highway and its users,” read the notice.
The administration has also appealed for public cooperation in maintaining the integrity and durability of NH-29 and the safety of all. It warned that any activity deemed detrimental to the highway or public safety may invite legal action under relevant laws and regulations.
For further clarification or enquiries, concerned individuals or entities have been advised to contact the office of the DC, Chümoukedima.
