Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): Veteran politician, KL Chishi has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) citing what he claimed was the party’s failure to address “major issues” concerning the people of Nagaland.
In his resignation letter, made available to the press on Thursday, the former chief minister of Nagaland stated it was “unfortunate” that the BJP had “chosen to ignore the interest of the people of Nagaland especially on these major issues – Naga political solution, CAB and ILP/BEFR, youth unemployment and lack of development.”
According to him, the BJP has ‘shifted the goalpost as per their convenience’ on Naga political issue “with promise of solution within 18 months turning into Election for Solution and now Solution after Election.”
Chishi was also critical of the “brazen attempt to ram” the Citizenship Bill through the Parliament. “Moreover, the proposal for extension of ILP under BEFR 1873 to cover the district of Dimapur lacks a certain political will,” he said.
Also, the BJP Nagaland unit “playing second fiddle” to the NDPP has rendered his association with the BJP untenable, he informed. Chishi had lost in the last Nagaland assembly elections contesting from Atoizu assembly constituency.
