Imphal,Feb. 28 (EMN): A Chinese Pangolin that was rescued from Old Tamenglong village was released after monitoring its health condition for three days and nights in a Tamenglong village on Friday.
The rare animal was released in Azuram Village Community Reserve Forest in presence of Range Forest Officer Tamenglong Kh Hitler Singh and forest guard Kaphunlung Khangchian following a prayer by Chairman Nathaniel Panmei of Azuram Village who was accompanied by President and Secretary of the Village Youth.
Two project officials from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Himanshu Lad and Lamgouhao Neishel besides members of the Rainforest Club Tamenglong (RCT) and Tamenglong Animals Home were also present during the event.
Reports reaching here said the pangolin was brought to Forest Inspection bungalow for temporary shelter and proper medication and observation was done under the guidance of Vikram, a veterinary officer from Keibul. Consultation and inputs were taken from Pangolin expert Rajesh Kumar Mohapatra as well. Injuries were checked, dressing and cleaning of the wound was done by Daniel Macwan and Gailina of Tamenglong Animals Home.
After observing the pangolin for three days and three nights by officials from WII, the forest department took consultation from various experts on the health issues of the pangolin and as advised by the experts minimum handling of the animal was practiced and the pangolin was released back in the wild on Friday in the best health condition at Azuram Village Community Reserve Forest.
