A Chinese pangolin was rescued from Manipur's Senapati district and successfully released back into its natural habitat.
IMPHAL — In a remarkable display of community spirit and conservation efforts, a Chinese pangolin was rescued from Manipur's Senapati district and successfully released back into its natural habitat, highlighting the dedication to protecting the region's forest and wildlife.
The rescue operation was a collaborative effort between Forest Department officials in Senapati district and the Sadim Pukhri Village Pukhri Authority.
Forest Department officials received a distress call from Joseph Kaba, chairman of Sadim Malingli village, after he found the displaced Pangolin.
Forest officials promptly responded to the call, mobilising a team that included Veterinary Officer Dr. Chang L of Senapati, to assess the pangolin’s health, check for injuries, and identify any potential pathogens.
After a thorough examination by the veterinary doctor, the pangolin was cleared for release. Following verification, it was safely returned to the wild in accordance with the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

The department called on the public to join conservation efforts and preserve natural resources for future generations. The successful rescue and release of the pangolin demonstrated that community collaboration can effectively protect biodiversity.

The Sadim Pukhri village community has been actively engaged in conservation efforts, including protecting the forest area around Sadim Lizai Lake, for over a decade.
