
Children from Dimapur participate in a bird walk during the
Great Backyard Bird Count 2025 on February 16.
- DIMAPUR — Early
Bird and ATAAVI Bird Foundation, along with partner organisations in eight
cities, organised bird walks, including in Dimapur.
- According to an update, in Bangalore, it was held on
February 15, and in Dimapur, Halol, Jaipur, Mangalore, Ranchi, Trivandrum, and
Ujjain on February 16, early in the mornings.
- The walks were organised during the Great Backyard Bird
Count 2025 (February 14-17), a global community science event held annually in
mid-February. Designed for children aged 9-13 and led by nature educators
across the eight cities, the event saw the participation of 100 children.
- In Dimapur, with partner organisation Ecowarriors Nagaland,
it was held at the PWD Forest Colony Complex and led by Kulangala Sangtam,
co-facilitated by Longtiba Jingru.
- The walk in Dimapur centred on observing various birds,
including the common tailorbird, sparrow, crow, and pigeon. Participants also
spotted bird nests. The children played Bird Bingo, a fun and educational game
that encouraged bird observation and nature exploration.
- Early Bird is a learning programme that brings children
closer to birds and nature through the distribution of educational materials on
Indian birds, available in 10 Indian languages, as well as in English.
- ATAAVI Bird Foundation is dedicated to conserving India’s
avian diversity through birdwatching, education, and conservation efforts.
Through collaborations and initiatives like ATAAVI Birders Clubs in colleges
across India, the foundation aims to inspire youth and foster sensitivity
towards birding and environmental stewardship.
- Ecowarriors Nagaland is a registered nature conservation
organisation dedicated to preserving the flora and fauna of Nagaland through
various outreach programmes.
- It was mentioned that, since its inception, Ecowarriors
Nagaland has been working on multiple projects in collaboration with the Forest
Department, Government of Nagaland, with the vision of engaging the community
in active participation in the conservation of biodiversity and wildlife
ecology.
