Dimapur, Jan. 27 (EMN): As the nation celebrated ‘National Girl Child Day’ on January 24, Childline Dimapur also took the initiative to celebrate at St. Peter School, Toulazouma. The day was celebrated in order to promote the girls’ position in the society to make their living better as many girls are deprived of their own rights.
During the programme, students were reminded to remove different types of social stigmas, discrimination and exploitation that girls in the society generally face in their day today life, regardless of any age group. The team spoke on “My body safety rules”- good touch and bad touch and “menstrual hygiene management.”
The team emphasised stating: “Your body belongs to you and no one is allowed to hurt your body in any way. Your private parts are the parts covered by your under garments. It is never right for someone to touch, talk about or look at your private parts. It is not okay for someone to take photos or videos of you with your clothes off or to show you photos or videos of people without their clothes on.
“Touches that make you feel uncomfortable are usually bad touches and you should never keep secrets that make you feel uncomfortable or when someone gives you bad touch.
“If someone breaks these rules, you must immediately tell to someone whom you trust the most and you can also call Childline number 1098.”
The team also stated that menstruation hygiene is important for every girl’s wellbeing and development. While stating that menstruation is a biological process, they conveyed that some people still feel dirty or consider unclean and still remained a widely stigmatised issue.
Students were encouraged not feel ashamed of going through menstrual cycle but instead embrace themselves through it with confidence and potentiality.
The team further demonstrated on how to use sanitary pads and distributed to the students.
