DIMAPUR — The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mission Vatsalya, Department of Social Welfare, Zunheboto, organised a block-level sensitisation programme on child rights and protection and legal adoption at Atoizu Town Hall, Zunheboto, on Saturday as part of the observance of Child Rights Week from November 14 to the 21st.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Ruzonuo Rita Rutsa, district child protection officer (DCPO), DCPU, spoke on child rights and protection, highlighting the legal frameworks, responsibilities of stakeholders, and the need for community participation in safeguarding children.
This was followed by a session on different child protection mechanisms and legal adoption presented by Luaying Konyak, legal-cum-protection officer, DCPU, who briefed participants on the procedures, legal provisions, and the role of statutory bodies in ensuring safe and lawful adoption practices.
The discussion hour was moderated by Thujosayi Keyho, social worker, DCPU, allowing participants to raise queries and share concerns regarding issues related to child rights and welfare.
The sensitisation programme aimed to strengthen awareness at the grassroots level and reinforce the collective responsibility of the community in protecting and promoting the rights of children.
