Child Rights Week awareness held in Chümoukedima
Officials with students during the one-day awareness programme on Child Rights Week at Seitheke Basa Council Hall, Chümoukedima, on November 17.


DIMAPUR — The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), in collaboration with Child Helpline 1098, organised a one-day awareness programme as part of Child Rights Week on November 17 at Seitheke Basa Council Hall, Chümoukedima.


According to a DIPR report, Awala Jamir, member, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), spoke on the occasion on “The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and Child Marriage Act”.


She sensitised the participants on the issue of child marriage, emphasising the crucial role of parents and the community in preventing such practices. She also highlighted the role of Child Helpline 1098 in addressing cases related to child marriage. Further, she spoke on child labour and its prohibition, stressing that education is a key instrument in eradicating child labour from the society.

Esther K Aye, chairperson, CWC Chümoukedima, spoke on Child Rights and the Right to Education. She stated that every child between the ages of 6 and 14 has the right to free and compulsory education.


She also discussed the key provisions of the POCSO Act and emphasised the importance of protecting children’s rights and promoting awareness about Child Helpline 1098. Altogether, around 200 participants attended the programme.
