Kohima, Feb. 28 (EMN): The Child Protection Services (CPS), department of Social Welfare, Nagaland, organised a state-level mega event on child rights and protection with the theme ‘celebrating childhood’ on Thursday at RCEMPA in Jotsoma.
Society director of CPS, Nagaland, Chubainla Jamir urged the gathering to pledge on taking further step to give every child a reason to live and ensure that they have a safe and secure childhood.
The director also launched a coffee table book titled “The journey so far” by the CPS, department of Social Welfare. Informing that the book is a collection of photos, occasions and events over the last 10 years, she expressed hope that it will serve as a reminder about the CPS’ and inspire the generations to come.
Director of Social Welfare department K Atoli also launched the CPS website during the programme.
It may be mentioned that the CPS, Nagaland, was launched in 2010. It is a scheme under the ministry of Women and Child Development that works for creating a system that protects children through civil society partnership.
Three short videos produced by the Take One were screened during the programme. The videos were aimed at creating awareness on alternative care services being implemented under the CPS and one of them was based on real life story of ‘child sexual abuse’. It sent out a strong message to everyone to recognise child sexual abuse as a reality and protect the children.
Children are full of energy, ideas, and hope for the future but they are also facing threats that are unimaginable, Superintendent of Observation Home in Zunheboto Aolemla Imsong said.
Children from 11 districts of Nagaland participated in cultural dance competition during the event. The Bright Morning Star Children Home, Kohima received first prize in cultural dance competition , while ZAVMAST Children Home, Khulazu Basa village, in Phek district were placed in second position and Langsa Hill Children Home, Mon, in third position.
Yabangkiri Changkiri won first prize in photography competition held on the theme Nagaland Children, while Chizokho Vero came in second place and third price went to Vishü Rita Krocha and Nangkha Longkumer.
