
Dimapur, Nov. 26 (EMN): To empower children through democratic values, Project Spatial under Can Youth and supported by Child Aid Network has formed child parliament for the students of Government High School, Sarbura.
An update from Can Youth stated that the project co-ordinator Lairing Dau Jigdung gave a brief concept on the purpose for formation of child parliament and its importance among the children. He mentioned that it is a platform for students to express their emotions fearlessly and work with understanding of right to self, ensure quality education by creating child-friendly situation in school together with teachers, parents, and stakeholders.
Lairing also pointed out the importance of child parliament where students could play their role in solving problems and assist teachers in various ways.
He also illustrated on the objectives of child parliament to enable students become sensitive to school related issues and linking school management to solution, ensure students participation to create a better educational environment in the school, build personality development, make students aware about parliamentary functioning, develop an understanding of democratic values and enhance leadership skills.
The team also nominated members for various posts to be introduced in child parliament led by Chenibemo Lotha as president, Methila Norah as prime minister and other cabinet ministers.
It further stated that Can Youth is planning to form child parliament in different government schools under Dimapur district.
