DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 11: As a part of ‘Childline Se Dosti’ campaign, Childline Dimapur inaugurated the first Child-Friendly Corner at Women Police Station Dimapur, with the concept of Child-Friendly Police Station under Juvenile Justice Act.
Childline Dimapur contributed first aid kit, books, playing materials and decorated the corner with paintings, posters and stickers. It was designed in a friendly environment, where the child would feel safe and comfortable while interacting with the police.
During the inaugural programme, nodal director of Childline Dimapur, Subonenba Longkumer sensitized women police personnel on the concept of Child Friendly Police Station and urged to continue their positive support towards Childline in future endeavors.
Highlighting the concept of Child-Friendly-Police, nodal officer mentioned that police personnel should not be in uniform while dealing with the child, should speak in a polite manner and not to use harsh or rude language and uphold dignity and self-esteem of the child. He said questions that may lead to discomfort of a child should be asked in tactful manner, playing kits or drawings can be used to communicate with the child to bring out and identify element of abuse and no accused or suspected accused should be brought in contact with the child.He also said a board detailing offences against children and rights of a child should be displayed at a prominent place in the police station. Interaction with the child should take place in the presence of child’s parents or a trusted adult or Para Legal Volunteer or representative of identified voluntary organization and immediate need assessment of the child should be conducted in terms of food, clothing, emergency medical care, counseling, psychological support and the same should be immediately extended to the child at the police station.
Child-Friendly Corner has facilities like drinking water, first-aid kit, toys and list of welfare committee, child care institutes and district child protection officers.
Meanwhile, Childline Dimapur extended its gratitude to the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, DCP Zone II and officer-in- charge Women Police Station Dimapur for their cooperation and support towards the implementation of the Child Friendly Police Station.
