Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): State Chief Secretary, Binchilo Thong IAS on Fri. reviewed the implementation of various schemes/programmes under national flagship programme ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ (National Nutrition Mission) during the Poshan maah (National Nutrition month) by the ‘line departments’ and called on all the departments involved in it to make a concerted efforts to see that the entire exercise bear fruits.
Poshan Maah, a flagship programme of the central government, aims to reach every household in the country with the message of the importance of optimum nutrition. Under this programme, the government has fixed targets to reduce stunting, anaemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and low birth weight by 2 per cent, 2 per cent, 3 per cent and 2 per cent per annum.
A DIPR news update stated that the chief secretary, during the review meeting, was briefed by the ‘line departments’ on the activities being undertaken by the respective departments.
“The activities under the Poshan Maah is focused to consolidate improving nutrition among the targeted children, pregnant women etc. and on improving basic health facilities, sanitation and overall improvement of the health of the target groups,” the DIPR stated.
The chief secretary, while calling upon all the departments involved in it to make a concerted efforts to see that the entire exercise bear fruits, strongly suggested that whenever state level programmes is being launched, the governor and chief minister should be well informed and they should be invited to launch the programme.
The DIPR also informed that the chief secretary inquired about the activities at the district, sub-divisional and village levels and the sub-ordinate officials that coordinated action is the answer for success.
The release further stated that the social welfare secretary and state convergence plan committee chairman, Sarah Ritse also presented about the involvement of ‘line departments’ and their activities being undertaken during the month.
