Dimapur, Dec. 28 (EMN): The Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat arrived at Army Spear Corps, Dimapur, on December 28. He is scheduled to visit important locations in the states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur on December 28 and 29 December.
General Bipin Rawat held a meeting with Chief Minister TR Zeliang at Dimapur and discussed the security situation, informed defence sources.
He later visited HQ IGAR(N) and reviewed the prevailing security situation in the state where he exhorted the troops of Assam Rifles to continue to do well and remember that they are the 'true Sentinels of the North East'.
The Army Chief will undertake an appraisal of operations of the Spear Corps along the Line of Actual Control as well as Counter Insurgency Operations.
Besides the security aspects, 'facilitating the ongoing peace process' as well as improving employment generation opportunities will also figure in the planned discussions, it was informed.
The Army Chief is accompanied by Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command, and Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.
