Chief Minister, TR Zeliang has claimed that despite the possibility of an all-party government set-up causing some disturbance to the “check and balance” of the state government, it has more benefits than drawbacks “especially while dealing in the Naga political issue.”
This was stated during the Chief Minister’s concluding remarks and adoption to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address at the state Assembly, informed a press release from the Chief Minister’s office on Monday.
“He strongly believed that this has led to a fruitful dimension on the Naga political issue with construction suggestion. He commented that the house has spent quality time and not quantity time,” it stated.
Zeliang, according to the statement, informed the House that the special state status for Nagaland and a few other states has not been removed yet but under consideration from the central government. “He said that a meeting with the Prime Minister of India was held on 15th July in this connection and hope that the state will continue to be under the special status state.”
Replying to a query on the Medical College by MLA Imkong L Imchen, the Chief Minister said that due to few problems the work is yet to start. He also mentioned that the GIS cell is doing a land survey so that there is no excess payment in the land compensation, it informed.
“The Chief Minister clarified that the Planning Commission has been replaced by NITI Ayog at the center with the Prime Minister of India as the chairman and the Chief Ministers of states as its members. However, this does not mean that the planning departments in the states have also been done away with. The Planning department of the states will continue to carry out its duties for the functioning of the states, he said.”
On the Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and Disturb Area Act (DAA) the Chief Minister said that it is not in the domain of the State government to impose or revoke the act. He said that the state government has written to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to revoke the AFSPA and DAA that has been imposed in the state. He also mentioned that the 60 members of the NLA have passed a resolution urging the Government of India to revoke the AFSPA and DAA.
“The Chief Minister also commented that all the 60 members of the NLA are part of the ruling government and assured that there will be no discrimination in the development of the state. He also said that the 60 members have come together to find and early and permanent solution to the Naga political issue. “
