Dimapur, Oct 18 (EMN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in collaboration with the Chiechama Youth Organisation (CYO), has organised a community programme on disaster preparedness at Chiechama village panchayat hall on October 17 and 18.
Various subjects of the training included introduction to disaster and disaster management, role and characteristics of Community First Responder(CFR), knotting, splinting, bandaging, emergency methods of rescue etc.
Khrienuo Metha, NSDMA commissioner and Secretary, who graced the closing programme, has appreciated the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) for their continued support and assisting the department in different capacities. She also acknowledged and recalled the timely participation and support of the Chiechama Village Youth Organisation during the recent conducted state-wide Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) which was conducted to test the capability and preparedness of the state government and its agencies.
She expressed optimism that the community training would surely enable the present generation to cultivate a noble practice which may eventually save the future of the younger generations. She also highlighted the activities and functions of the department and assured all possible assistance in building a society resilient to disasters.
Johnny Ruangmei, OSD NSDMA, said disaster is inevitable and we can only prepare ourselves on preparedness and responses. He requested the Chiechama community to form a dedicated disaster response team and perform disaster response activities.
Kekhriezhavi Lea, Geologist, NSDMA, explained the causes of an earthquake and its effects. Stating that disasters might happen at any given time as Nagaland is placed under seismic zone V, he said we ought to be prepared.
Kekhriezhalie Metha, CYO president, expressed gratitude to the department for successfully conducting the training and said that the training was intended to educate and empower the youth so that they would respond to any disasters independently. He expressed confidence that the youth will practice their learning and also impart the same learning to others back home.
Short speeches were also delivered by Pukoulie Chadi, village head GB, and Nitso Sogotsu, chairman of Chiechama village council.
The closing programme was chaired by Thejangulie Zao, DDMO Kohima, while the opening programme was chaired by Isamzai, PC. The topic on art of communication, consent and confidentiality was delivered by Victor Yhome, DPA Kohima. The training final remarks and vote of thanks was delivered by Khrolou Lohe, STCBO.
The two-day training featured many practical sessions being demonstrated by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Kohima. The training was attended by 80 youth.
