DIMAPUR, AUGUST 10: Amid a call to forge friendships with other tribes to advance, the people of Chessore village in Tuensang district celebrated Medumneo festival with fervor during the week.
The parliamentary secretary for Economics & Statistics and Municipal Affairs R Tohanba attended the Medumneo festival program at Chessore village’s public ground on Monday.
Medumneo is the premier festival of the Yimchumger Naga.
Speaking during the occasion, Tohanba called upon the people to take the festival as opportune time to develop cordial relationship with one another and maintain the spirit of ‘oneness.’
The politician also called upon the Yimchunger community to ‘make friendship with other tribes and also seek their blessing to move forward.’ He called upon them to maintain peace and tranquility.
Referring ‘to the competitive world,’ Tohanba emphasized on the need to frame ‘proper plans’ for one to be able to succeed.
Also, the informed the gathering that the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, had recently announced a new national highway ‘touching Yimchuger area.’
The new national highway stretchs 200 kilometers and will traverse Showuba, Guzunyu, Pughoboto, Aghunato, Shamator, Noklak and Pangsha, he said. He appealed to the people of Chessore to cooperate with the implementing agency for ‘successful execution of this new NH.’
Earlier, representative of Chessore pleaded to the parliamentary secretary to construct a rostrum at Chessore village public ground.
The director of Municipal Affairs Zambemo Ngullie and the vice president of the Yimchunger Tribal Council Throngso Yimchunger, among others, also spoke during the occasion.
A note about the significance of Medumneo festival was given by K Throngkiuba.
Cultural dances and a feast commemorating Medumneo were among the day’s celebrations.
