Dimapur, August 23 (EMN): The Chekiye Village Council (CVC) has vehemently condemned the attempted kidnapping of 13 year old juvenile girl at Chekiye village on August 20 by Tohuto, a resident of 5th mile Model village.
In a press release, CVC chairman Toiho Yeptho and secretary, Mughaho Zhimomi, stated that the culprit grabbed the girl throat and muffled her mouth with his hands to kidnap her but miraculously, the victim escaped the attempted abduction for whatever evil motive the culprit had in mind.
“The failed attempt of kidnapping does not minimise the gravity of the case at all if any sensible person applies his/her mind what could have happened to the small innocent girl. Hypothetically, had the kidnapping/abduction of the girl been successful, it leaves no doubt in our mind that either the girl would have been raped, murdered, or child-trafficked,” CVC stated.
The accused who is a stranger to Chekiye village walked all alone inside the church compound and had the audacity to call out the girl from the Sunday school classroom asking her name and trying to lure her by falsely telling her that her friends are calling her. Needless to say that such evil action even inside the Church vicinity has created a fear psychosis in minds of the society, stated the press release.
CVC said it is expected from the law enforcing agencies namely police and prosecution to pursue the case with all sincerity so that an exemplary judgment is pronounced and befitting punishment is awarded to the accused.
Pointing out lapses of criminal procedure leading to unfortunate situations and people losing faith in the legal system of the state, the CVC said such kind should not be encouraged.
“As of now and so far we have confidence in the procedures followed by the police in charge sheeting this case (registered as PS (women) 70/17 and GR-577/17 in the court” the council stated.
However, CVC said they expect the police to unearth what is the reason to attempt to kidnap/abduct the girl child by the accused; was it for rape, murder, child trafficking or any other reason; whether the police have identified the white Gypsy used in the first instance in an attempt to kidnap the girl; whether the police have identified the Motor Cycle and the friend of the accused in the second instance when they returned to Chekiye village; and whether police have taken the statements of all relevant witnesses of the crime.
Further, CVC mentioned that they wish to make it known to all concerned authorities that the council will give full cooperation so that justice prevails and confidence of the people is restored. The CVC and its wings of organisations would leave no stone unturned to bring the case to logical conclusion, the release added.
