Imphal, Oct. 10 (EMN): The Community Health Centre (CHC) at Mao in Senapati district won the best CHC among state’s 16 CHCs for its priceless services to the people.
Considering the performance and its achievement in serving the needy people, the state health authority is planning to convert CHC Mao into a sub-district hospital.
The move is in the pipeline, says Health and family welfare minister L Jayantakumar after distributing the cash awards to best 10 Public Health Centre (PHC) and CHC Mao during Kayakalp award distribution function at JNIMS auditorium in Imphal on Tuesday afternoon. CHC Mao was awarded Rs 15 lacs.
Similarly the PHC at Mekola in Imphal West district will be upgraded into a CHC soon considering the public demand,he added.
Winning the best PHCs in the districts include Jessami (Ukhrul), Mekola( Imphal West), Nongpok Sekmai(Thoubal), Noney(Noney), Singhat (Churachandpur), Oinam (Bishnupur), Mayang Imphal(Imphal West).The lone Urban PHC which was also awarded a cash prize of Rs 2 lac. each along with best PHCs, was Mantripukhuri UPHC. There are 16 CHCs and 85 PHCs in the state.
Speaking on the occasion Minister Jayantakumar said the state authority is all set to buy its own helicopter to provide the healthcare service to the interiors. The Prime Minister and Civil Aviation authority have also approved it. DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh had also made an announcement in this regard in October last year. As a result the Central authority recently allocated Rs 25 crore to for the said purpose in Manipur.
Recalling the lack of healthcare facilities and infrastructures in the interior areas such as in Parbung in Churachandpur,Jessami in Ukhrul,Liyain in Senapati and Tousem in Tamenglong districts of the state, Minister Jayentakumar also informed that the state authority is trying its best to do the needful.
He also informed the gathering that the move to convert CHC Mao into a sub-district hospital is in the pipeline. Similarly the PHC at Mekola in will be upgraded into a CHC soon considering the public demand.
Parliamentary secretary(Health) S Subhaschandra, Secretary (health) Sumant Singh,Director JNIMS Dr Bhimo,Director Dr K Rajo of the state health department also spoke on the occasion which was attended by doctors,nurses,supporting staffs of the state’s healthcare units.
After receiving the day’s award,an official of PHC at Behiang,a village along Indo-Myanmar border which treats at least 25 patients including Myanmarese daily besides having a number of delivery cases, expressed their desire to spend the day’s cash award in organising health cards for widows,orphans besides giving presentation to the staffs who work tirelessly at their centres.
