Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): As part of the nationwide ‘Poshan Maah’ or national nutrition month, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) unit at Chare conducted panchayat meetings and seminars from September 18 to the 20th at Trongar, Chungliyimti and Chare town, in Tuensang district.
A press release issued to the media on Sunday stated that the meetings were conducted with village council members, GB, church leaders, Anganwadi workers, helpers and accredited social health activists from four villages during the programme.
‘The meetings were conducted with the view to reach every household in Chare block with the message of nutrition with focus on mobilization and participation of the masses in addressing various aspects of nutritional challenges and to enable awareness on the importance of nutrition,’ the press release stated.
Speaking at the meetings with the participants, Nockpai Konyak, extra additional commissioner of Chare, spoke about an action plan that is to be implemented in the block. He said that the coordination between various departments would be ensured to make ‘Poshan Maah’ a success.
Emphasising on the importance of the role of village councils, GBs and churches, Konyak said that they will come in handy in carrying forward the mission of Poshan Maah and Poshan Abhiyan in every household of Chare area, the updates stated.
Chare’s Child Development Project Officer Moa Longkumer, also spoke at the event. He talked to the participants about how individual families can easily access government services to supplement nutrition for their children and pregnant or lactating mothers. He spoke about the aims and objectives, targeted beneficiaries, and convergence action plans of the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan and the Rashtriya Poshan Maah.
Approximately 90 village council members, GBs and church leaders participated in the panchayat meetings and camps, the updates stated.
On September 19 this year, the ICDS and the primary health centre of Chare conducted an anaemia screening camp for adolescent girls at the health centre, the press release stated.
‘The camp was conducted to spread awareness in the community about anaemia and its prevention and treatment. Around 120 girls underwent the screening test at the camp,’ the updates informed.
