Changtongya Volleyball Association win the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy in Mokokchung.
MOKOKCHUNG — Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) lifted the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy after defeating Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia (SSVCC) 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 28-26 in the final at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium in Mokokchung on September 18.
The victory marked a breakthrough for CVA, which had finished runners-up in both the 12th edition in 2022 and the 13th edition in 2024 after losing to MH-10 Kohima on both occasions.
The opening set began competitively with both teams trading points before CVA capitalised on defensive gaps to take the set 25-22. CVA dominated the second set 25-19 to extend their lead.
SSVCC rallied in the third set, producing coordinated attacks to win 25-14.
In the fourth set, both sides contested closely in long rallies. SSVCC held a set point at 24-22, but CVA recovered under pressure to claim the set at 28-26 and seal the championship.
MH-10 Kohima finished in third place, while Longsa Sporting Association secured fourth place. The champions received INR 80,000, the runners-up received INR 50,000, third place took INR 25,000, and fourth place received INR 15,000.
Among individual awards, Sarilepzung of CVA was named Best Setter, while teammate Yongkongtenzuk won the Best Spiker award. Imtinungba of Savage Setters was adjudged Player of the Tournament. Each individual award winner received INR 5,000.
Rural Development and SIRD Minister Metsübo Jamir attended the closing ceremony as the special guest. Speaking at the programme, the minister congratulated all participating teams, noting that participation mattered more than winning. He called on players to honour the legacy and contributions of Luke Sasong.
The biennial tournament was organised by the Luke Sasong Sporting Association under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students' Union, featuring eight competing teams.
