Dimapur, Dec. 29 (EMN): Under the theme, ‘Heedfulness,’ Changtongya Students Union (CKT) celebrated its platinum jubilee on Friday.
In the concluding session, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur Limasunep Jamir exhorted the students to rethink and refines their goals with each milestone.
Lauding the achievements of CKT with versatility and dynamism over the years, he underscored the need for refining and rethinking its goals as the Union march unto the future.
Changing the societal mindset particularly about government jobs to tackle the problem of the unemployed educated, he urged them to appreciate the talent, achievement and intellect of the sectors other than government jobs.
Students also need to be in sync with digital age, he said.
There is also the need to change the socio political discourse by encouraging more debates and discussions in platforms such as students’ jubilee and conference, Jamir added.
Given its rich history in the sporting arena, he also maintained that Changtongya is fit for opening a sports academy. As one of the oldest sub-division in Nagaland, he said that Changtongya rightfully deserved to be upgraded to ADC Hq.
Co-Country Director for India of American Baptist International Ministry, Rev. Taku Longkumer, who was the resource person for another session, said youth need to imagine higher because imagination take you everywhere. Citing personal experience he said the world is full of opportunities and called upon the youth to be imaginative and not restrict oneself to Nagaland.
He also highlighted the five common social evils that are ailing the Naga society today-- concern about material things, concern about self & self interest, disregard for all things that doesn’t affect you, a faith in cheating as long as it is not found, and lack of true conception.
Emphasizing on tackling the problem of alcoholism, he lamented that the village is also vulnerable to such symptom. “During election, if anyone sacrifices one rights for money or liquor, he/she is a nation breaker, not builder,” he noted.
Earlier, the statue of Pangerkumdang, who sowed the seeds of modern education in Changtongya, was unveiled outside the CKT’s library. He is said to have conferred the title, ‘CKT’s Father of Education.’
The Platinum Jubilee Celebration concluded with an ‘entertainment gala’ featuring, among others, the retro rock band ‘Lord of Rock’ and local stand-up comedians.
