DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27
Changsang Range Students’ Union (CRSU) and the Changsang Range Village Council Union (CRVCU) have expressed dismay to learn about what it called “the senseless provocative statements” issued by Yimchungru organizations during the last couple of weeks. The two organizations issued a press release on Wednesday.
“If they think the action of Chendang village is worth condemnable they can do so within its limits. However the alleged claim of Chendang Saddle as ‘the Yimchungru Land’ or Yumchungru as ‘the land owner’ and Kuthur village as ‘the parent village” of Chendang village or its people as ‘immigrants’ are extremely provocative and a direct challenge to the whole Changs,” the two organizations stated in the press release. “The action taken on August 7/8 intervening night was done within the legitimate rights of our customary practices. Moreover, a representation was also submitted to the district administration ahead of it. Therefore, from every point of view, the actions of the land owner are, no doubt, valid and appropriate,” the press release stated.
Any union or organizations including Yimchungru Tribal Council, the apex body of Yimchungru tribe, has the right to “opine their unhappiness but to do so with concrete facts and without prejudicing the tribal color,” the CRSU and the CRVCU stated.
“We strongly condemn in strongest terms the random claims of Yimchungru organizations which are direct attempt to murder the history of our ancestors and an insult not only to the Chendang villagers but the entire Chang tribe. The Chendang village and its people are bonafide member of Changsang Range Union and we are ready to go any extent to safeguard our territorial jurisdiction,” they stated.
The CRSU and CRVCU appeal all the right thinking citizens to come forward and condemn the “provocation and urge the competent authority to take appropriate action against the perpetrators without any further delay.”
