IMPHAL, September 16: A tribal body in Manipur’s Chandel district condemned the state authority for allegedly diverting government fund meant for the flood and landslide victims.
Conveying this to media, President W Kohring Victor of Anal Naga Tangpi (ANTA) urged the concerned authority for immediate release of the said fund amounting to Rs 27 Crores sanctioned by the Central Government in connection with last year’s flood and landslide.
In last year’s flood and landslide, Chandel district suffered a lot. A village in Chandel district was washed away by the landslide which claimed lives of around 20 villagers.
Victor who is also the Chairman of Chakpi River Flood affected Relief Committee also accused the Chief Minister of the State for the fund diversion.
He also claimed that the state government has allegedly utilised another central assistance fund of Rs 4.29 crores meant for 1225 flood and landslide victims of the district not to speak of depositing it in the district account for further distribution to the needy victims till date.
He further alleged that such act of hijacking and diverting funds meant for the victims of natural disasters not only aggravated the suffering of the hapless villagers but it also creates problems and distrust between the villagers and district administration.
The ongoing agitation by the Flood Victims Demand Committee Chandel and their allegations upon the district administrators is the result of diverting the public fund meant for the district, according to ANTA functionary.
He also appealed to the flood affected victims of the district to voice their anger directly upon the State authority.
