Dimapur, Jan. 21 (EMN): The Chakhroma Sports Association (CSA) of Chümoukedima celebrated its 50th anniversary at the local ground of Chümoukedima on Jan. 21 in Dimapur. The event will conclude on January 25.
Speaking during the occasion as ‘special guest’ of the event, the advisor for Youth Resources & Sports, Zale Neikha said the organisation has come a long way and ‘it is more or less because of unity.’ The Chakhroma people were acknowledge for the example they set not only for their area but for others too.
Neikha said that in sports, the Naga people have a ‘trait of self-praise, thinking themselves to be the best but is a very wrong practice which must be discarded forever if we plan to excel in our endeavours.’ He advised the gathering to respect others, choose the right sport, train like others and give their best to reach the pinnacle.
Further, the legislator advised the players to have strong determination and to give importance to education. He added that a determined player needs to know how to utilise their time, be disciplined and practice thoroughly in order to succeed in life.
The advisor urged the gathering to popularise their ‘traditional wrestling’ and that belt levels of wrestling can be conducted at the ‘international level.’ He hoped that the Naga people would participate and compete in such events in the future.
Neikha that a diet of regular meat is never the recipe to becoming exceptional sportsmen but stamina, practice and training at all levels will help the Nagas become successful. He urged parents, elders and leaders in general that they must discover the talents of the next generation while they’re young.
He said every child is sent to schools but that is purely education. Talent, on the other hand, is an area of interest, ability of the child in which they can do well exceptionally, he reminded them.
‘It’s high time we live with new mindsets with changed ways of living lest our children become beggars in future,’ he said.
In other matters, Neikha urged the gathering to explore entrepreneurship as government jobs are no more available like it used to in the past. He added that it is time ‘we consider other options of earning where entrepreneurship is the most promising today.’As the New Year has begun, he concluded, ‘Let’s move ahead giving our best in our endeavours to become successful in life.’ The inaugural programme begun with the unveiling of a monolith by Neikha. The programme was followed by a Naga-style wrestling event for seniors and under-16 categories.In the under-16 Naga-style wrestling, Viketouto Keyho from Piphe Bawe village was declared the champion, Neikotseilie Krose from Medziphema town the second runner up, and Keneisezo Keyho from Piphe Bawe village the third runner up. In the second day of the event, a volleyball tournament for men and women, and football for men will be held at the Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre’s grounds.
