Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN): The Western Chakhesang Youth Organization (WCYO) observed the Chakhesang tribe’s ‘Chakhesang Day’ on Thursday during the group’s biennial sports event currently underway at Bade village, in Dimapur.
Addressing the occasion, Besuneyi Swuro, vice president of the Western Chakhesang Hoho, greeted the community and talked to the youths about the significance of the event. Members of the community—Goyiepra Kenye, Wezülhi Krome and Nesatsü Khamo; all demised—were the pioneers who mobilized the community and fought for the recognition of the Chakhesang tribe, the youths were told. The tribe was recognized on January 10 1946 by the British Indian government, a press release from the youth organisation stated. Before this time, the Chakhesang people were part of the eastern Angami, the updates stated.
“Swuro exhorted the gathering particularly the youth to take up the responsibility of strengthening the sense of unity within the community in particular and society in general. He also called on the gathering to be instruments of support to each other irrespective of one’s background,’ the organisation stated.
Swuro encouraged the sportspersons and youths at the event to compete at higher platforms and bringing laurels to the community, the updates stated.
