- DIMAPUR — To spread awareness on the standing
resolutions of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) on conservation of
biodiversity, the officials of Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) undertook area
tours across Phek district on April 14 and 15 and met several village leaders
including their affiliated youth leaders.
- An update from CYF stated that any form of hunting, fishing
with harmful equipments, extraction of medicinal plants, indiscriminate jungle
burning and import of pigs above 30 kg was completely banned within the
Chakhesang jurisdiction. It added that CYF would continue implementing the CPO
resolutions by penalising defaulters for the greater interest of the community
at large.
- It also mentioned that the CPO resolution has allowed the
use of bore-well only in a controlled manner, whereby, permission might be
sought from the CPO for bore-well drilling.
- It stated that CYF team caught 5 defaulters during the tour
and would be penalised as per the standing resolutions. The CYF warned that
repeated offenders would face a more stringent penalty.
- It mentioned that through the initiatives, there has been
transformative impact of community support in safeguarding wildlife. It stated
that increasing sightings of birds and animals served as a testament to the
collective efforts of local communities in preserving our rich biodiversity.
- CYF has acknowledged those villages, which are stringently
implementing the resolutions and further sought support from all the villages
within the Chakhesang jurisdiction.
- CYF also urged the neighbouring villages from other tribes,
bordering Chakhesang villages to respect the standing CPO resolutions by
refraining from hunting in the Chakhesang jurisdiction. It further warned that
CYF would begin to take action against such defaulters.
