Kohima, Feb. 24 (EMN): As part of the Clean Election movement (CCEM) in the Chakhesang areas to maintain peace and ensure smooth conduct of the forthcoming Nagaland assembly elections, the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) has set up various check gates in their respective area and village to curb the flow of liquor into Phek district.
A volunteer at one of the check gates near Lekromi village on Fri. evening told media persons that the CMA had set up check gates in various locations of the district to check liquor. It was informed that liquor and other intoxicants had been seized.
While apologising for inconvenience the event may have caused to the people, the CMA has appealed to them to cooperate.
The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) has authorised setting up check gates or to stop any vehicle or persons at any place deemed fit to engage in social enforcement within the Chakhesang areas during the forthcoming 13th state assembly elections.
Vehicles belonging to security forces, district administration and election observers have been exempted from the checking.
Also, while endorsing the CMA’s initiative the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council has stated that the mothers have been sacrificing their energy, time and resources to save the people from the destruction alcohol can cause, a press release issued by the CBCC’s executive secretary, Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo stated.
