A two-day event of the Chakhesang Public Organization, the 34th general session of the group, conciding with what they called the second “Chakhesang day” took place at Phusachodu village, under Phek district, from Jnuary 9. The event culminated on January 10.
The community event was conducted with the theme ‘Unity through justice,’ according to a press release from the organizers issued to the media on Tuesday, January 12.
Rev. Dr. Vezopa Tetseo, executive secretary of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council was the main speaker for the event, the press release said. In his speech, he stressed on the need to propagate unity and justice ‘on a larger scale.’ Unity is an essential component to receive all rightful blessings from God and live in harmony with one another the press release quoted him as having said.
Referring to Bible verse, Rev. Tetseo said no division ought to be there among the communities and the people must be ‘perfectly united in mind and thought.’
Also, speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Chotisuh Sazo addressed the gathering. He challenged the Chakhesang community to maintain the ‘good traditional practices and customs’ as the community was “known for honesty, simplicity, and hard work,” the press release said quoting the politician. He also stated that a ‘high-level of democratic system at the grass root level,’ respect to elders and a sense of patriotism also form the assets of the Chakhesang community.
Neiba Kronu, the parliamentary secretary for Planning & Coordination, Evaluation, Monitoring Cell and Taxes called addressed the event calling upon the Chakhesang community to ‘focus on economy and human resource development.’
The politician opined that the Chakhesang Public Organization, Chakhesang Students’ Union and Chakhesang Youth Front must ‘thoroughly discuss both the strength and weakness and frame a comprehensive strategy to take Chakhesang community forward on economy and human resource development.’
In other events, the CPO has announced a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2016-2018.
The new team is led by Kekhwengulo Lea as president
