AMD is looking to make a strong start to the year with the announcement of a range of new products at CES 2023, including the highly anticipated Ryzen 7000 mobile CPUs and RX 7000 mobile GPUs.
The Ryzen 7000 mobile lineup is diverse, featuring APUs using the Zen 2, Zen 3, and Zen 3+ architectures, as well as the new Zen 4 architecture for the 7040 and 7045 series CPUs.
The 7040 series, codenamed Phoenix, is designed for efficiency and size and features up to eight cores and a TDP of 45 watts. It is also the first AMD chip to incorporate AI technology, thanks to the company's acquisition of Xilinx. AMD claims its new AI engine is up to 20% faster than the one in Apple's M2 CPU.
The 7045 series, codenamed Dragon Range, is designed for raw performance and is essentially a Ryzen 7000 desktop CPU adapted for laptops.
AMD is also launching four new laptop GPUs from the RX 7000 series, targeting Nvidia's popular RTX 3060. These new GPUs come in two flavours: -M for performance and -S for efficiency. The RX 7000 mobile series is only a partial replacement for the RX 6000 mobile series, with four new models rather than a full lineup.
In addition to the mobile products, AMD has also announced the Ryzen 7000 V-Cache desktop CPUs and budget-oriented Ryzen 7000 processors.
The Ryzen 7000 V-Cache desktop CPUs are designed to provide a boost in performance for certain workloads, such as gaming and content creation, by integrating a large amount of cache directly onto the CPU die. This allows for faster access to frequently used data, resulting in improved performance. The budget-oriented Ryzen 7000 processors, on the other hand, offer a more affordable option for consumers without sacrificing too much on performance. These processors are aimed at the entry-level and mid-range markets and offer a balance of performance and value.
Overall, the announcement of these new products by AMD at CES 2023 is a strong way for the company to start the year and address the problems it faced in 2022. The launch of the Ryzen 7000 mobile CPUs and RX 7000 mobile GPUs will allow AMD to better compete in the mobile market, while the Ryzen 7000 V-Cache and budget-oriented Ryzen 7000 processors will help the company expand its product lineup and appeal to a wider range of consumers. All of these new products are set to launch in February, the company confirmed.
