Imphal, September 15 : Manipur's Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Wednesday said t hat the “framework agreement” that was signed between the NSCN (IM) and the centre was actually a "time bomb" for the northeast region.
Wondering why the contents of the agreement have not been disclosed to the public, Gaikhangam described the agreement as a ticking "time bomb".
"It is a time bomb ticking for the region (north-east)," he commented at the inaugural function on Panchayati Raj here.
The NDA government at the Centre and NSCN (IM) inked the framework agreement in August 2015.
Training his gun on BJP, the Deputy CM said the saffron party has been gaining strength in the state by taking in frustrated politicians.
"These politicians just want power but have no political place in Manipur. In fact, there is no scope for BJP in our state," Gaikhangam said.
Gaikhangam, the former president of MPCC, further predicted that those who will not get BJP tickets in the ensuing assembly elections would do harm to the party.
Manipur's territorial integrity will not be compromised: Shah
BJP will not allow Manipur's territorial integrity to be compromised, BJP president Amit Shah has said.
"Not a single inch of Manipur will be given to any other state," Shah told a huge public meeting here yesterday, virtually kick starting the party's campaign for the assembly election in the state likely to be held early next year.
Shah told the gathering it was time the Congress government in the state was changed and exuded confidence that BJP would get two-thirds majority in the Assembly after the election.
Stating that Northeast will be the "engine of development", Shah asked Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to elaborate on how his government utilised Rs 5,000 crore given by the Centre for the state's development.
Shah was accompanied by BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, Prahlad Patel, Assam's finance minister and Northeast Democratic Alliance convenor Hemanta Bishwa Sharma among others in his two-day visit to the state.
