In a major boost to postal services in Nagaland, Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today laid the foundation stone for Dimapur Mukhya Dak Ghar through video conferencing from Tripura during a dedication programme of core banking service of Agartala Post Office.
The unveiling ceremony of the foundation stone of Dimapur Mukhya Dak Ghar was held at the Old Post Office site near East Police Station.
Director of Postal Services, Nagaland Division, Som Kamei during the programme said, the foundation laid today will be a big significance for the people of Nagaland.
He said, the Mukhya Dak Ghar was approved more than 7 years ago.He said, Mukhya Dak Ghar building in Dimapur with three floors will be completed in two to three years time and will offer proper facilities.
He highlighted that in Nagaland with Kohima Post Office as the main headquarters, there are 42 sub-post offices and 270 branch offices totaling to more than 300 offices.
Kohima office is the only office that enables Core Banking System (CBS), the director said. He also brought to light that by the end of this financial year, all district offices will work with CBS.
Highlighting the achievements, Som Kamei informed that John Angami, who is the system administrator from Kohima office, received Meghdoot Award, a national level award for his excellence in IT by enabling CBS at Kohima office without any help from outside.
With the collaboration of Indigo Airlines coming to Dimapur, the duration of postal courier service has been minimized greatly since past few months.
