Dimapur, Feb. 22(EMN): Ministry of Women and Child Development has extended the date for registration of eligible children for the PM Cares for Children scheme till February 28.
States have been asked to identify and register eligible children in the PM Cares for Children portal (https://pmcaresforchildren.in).
The Ministry had earlier announced that the registration for the scheme was valid only till December 31.
The scheme, which was announced on May 29, 2021 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covers all children who have lost both parents, surviving parents, legal guardian or adoptive parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic starting from March 11, 2020 -- the date which World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Covid-19 as a pandemic.
According to the guidelines, to be entitled to the benefits under this scheme the child should not have completed 18 years of age on the death of parents.
The scheme inter-alia provides support to children through convergent approach, gap funding for ensuring education, health, monthly stipend form the age of 18 years, and lump sum of INR 10 lakh on attaining 23 years of age.
