Imphal, Nov. 6 (EMN): The Centre had approved laying of a gas pipeline from Silchar to Imphal to ensure disturbance-free gas supply to the State. Survey works for the said project would begin soon.
This was disclosed by the Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh during the opening function of the 1st Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX) - 2018 at Manipur Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West District on Nov. 5.
CM said that the state government is there for the well being of the people and added that it has distributed 1815 looms to around 162 clusters.
Maintaining that it was an important step towards enhancing the economic condition of weavers, he said that the distribution of such a large number of looms in a transparent manner is happening for the first time in the state. “Weavers need not worry for market because the government would purchase their products apart from providing yarns at their doorsteps,” he said. He also assured them of all the requirements to begin their venture.
Expressing happiness that a private company working under PPP model with the government had started producing high quality ladies apparels using raw materials from Guangzhou (China), he said that initiatives like digital payment and DBT of the Central are important steps towards this end.
Saying that Manipur had started witnessing many positive changes in the past one and a half year, N Biren Singh expressed hope that Manipur would become a leading State in the country within ten years if this improvement sustains.
Deputy CM Joykumar expressed hope that the event would open a chapter of economic prosperity for weavers.
Earlier, the Chief Minister opened the expo with cutting ribbon and lighting of ceremonial flames.
Hordes of Ministers, MLAs and officials of the state government also attended the function. They distributed 1815 looms to weavers of 162 handloom clusters.
