Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): Taking stock of the situation, a five member inter-ministerial central team has arrived in Nagaland to assess the disaster areas in Nagaland. A DIPR news report stated that the central team, which arrived on arrived on Sept. 4, is led by joint secretary (FFR) MHA, K.B.Singh.
The team visited Niuland sub-division and interacted with the affected farmers of Niuland and bordering villages during which the farmers narrated the extent of crop damaged, landslides and blockages of roads caused due to incessant downpour during the last part of July and first week August this year.
The team also visited Yeveto Village to take stock of the ground reality of the damages caused to plantation and crops due to the change of river course. On the way to Niuland the team stopped by at the Balijan bridge connecting Niuland and Dimapur which has been completely washed away, the DIPR stated.
The Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel (IAS) while apprised the team on the extent of damages under Dimapur district.
He presented a pictorial panorama of the infrastructural damages, deaths, number of ‘pucca and kutcha’ houses damaged, overview of difference in water level, landslides and sinking areas, rescue operations undertaken, relief given, relief shelter/ camps etc.
The team will be visiting Ralan and Bhandari areas under Wokha district to see the major damages after which they would proceed to Wokha and heed to Kohima and see the major landslides in and around the capital district
Nagaland is undergoing one of the worst monsoon seasons in recent times where landslides and floods have displaced a hundreds of people in different parts of the state.
The monsoon rains has also claimed twelve lives. The state government is staring at a colossal loss of about INR 800 crores and the roads to some of the villages in the interior parts of Nagaland still remains cut off.
