DIMAPUR — Preparatory activities for Census 2027 continued across Nagaland with training programmes for enumerators and supervisors conducted in Kohima and Bhandari, while a sensitisation programme for village functionaries was held in Shamator.
Kohima: In Kohima, M K Tiwari, Joint Director of the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India and Census Central Observer for Nagaland State for the Census of India 2027 (HLO-Phase I), visited the ongoing training sessions for enumerators and supervisors of Kohima district on Wednesday.
During the visit, Tiwari interacted with B Henok Buchem, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer of Kohima, the District Census Officer of Kohima, and the charge officers.
According to a DIPR report, he reviewed the conduct of the training programme and stressed the importance of quality data collection and thorough preparedness for the forthcoming census operations.
Bhandari: The training of census officials for Census 2027 under the Bhandari sub-division concluded with the second phase of training held at the conference hall of EBRC, Bhandari, on June 23 and 24.
The SDO (Civil) of Bhandari and Charge Officer for Census 2027 Arhomo Yanthan informed that eight supervisors and 41 enumerators from the Bhandari charge attended the second phase of training.

Altogether, 18 supervisors and 57 enumerators attended the training programme held from June 16 to the 24th.
The training was imparted by field trainers Binod Pariyar, Nyanthung Rangthang, and Lichanbemo N Odyuo, who are graduate teachers from Government Higher Secondary School, Bhandari.
Shamator: In Shamator, EAC Shamator and Charge Officer of the Census Circle Mekato J Aye, conducted a consultative meeting and sensitisation programme with village functionaries under the Thsotoku Census Circle in preparation for Census 2027.
The meeting witnessed participation from village functionaries representing all villages under the census circle. The programme aimed to sensitise stakeholders on the importance of the upcoming census, clarify doubts relating to the digital enumeration process, and discuss the roles and responsibilities of village authorities during the conduct of census operations.
Addressing the gathering, Aye highlighted the significance of the census as a vital exercise for planning, policy formulation, and equitable development. He elaborated on the transition to digital census operations and stressed the need for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely data collection.
Village functionaries were encouraged to assist supervisors and enumerators in the preparation of maps, identification of households, and facilitation of field-level activities as per the prescribed guidelines. The participants were also briefed on various case studies and practical aspects of census implementation.
An awareness session on the SIR of electoral rolls was also conducted, during which participants were sensitised on the importance of maintaining accurate electoral records and encouraged to disseminate awareness within their respective villages regarding voter registration, correction of entries, and electoral participation.
