A similar initiative was completed at New Market Dimapur the previous month. The cameras were installed and formally launched by the legislator from Dimapur, Tovihoto Ayemi. He described the initiative as a ‘big achievement’ among the business community.
According to Ayemi, the introduction of surveillance cameras would not only reduce criminal activities but also prevent crime in the market areas. He hoped that the business communities in other districts of the state would follow the example of their counterparts in Dimapur.
Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries President Hokivi Chishi, while speaking on the concept of surveillance system, felt that such imitative would not only reduce criminal activities but also help discipline the traders/shopkeepers.
Chishi also warned that trade licenses of any businessmen or members of the Hazi Park Welfare Committee would be cancelled if they are found involved in collection of taxes for the Naga political groups.
Atokhe H Aye, administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council encouraged the business people to deliver best service to customers. According to Hazi Park Businessmen Welfare Committee President Hukato V Achumi, similar surveillance cameras would be installed in the entire market in the coming days.
The traders were hopeful that the introduction of surveillance cameras would help in crime reduction as well as detection.
