Kohima, June 28 (EMN): After a gap of two years, the youth week of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Minister's Hill Kohima (CBCMHK) youth department got underway at the church premises on June 28 on the theme 'Stand firm.'
Media and publicity committee of CBCMHK informed that sports events including badminton, table tennis, carrom, arm wrestling, volleyball, obstacle race would be conducted in the next two days, while competitions on literary and music would be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Addressing the opening ceremony, president of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA), Vekhozo Ringa, urged the sport enthusiasts to be serious and give their best efforts.
“If one wants to take sports as a profession, one must make careful consideration while taking up sport disciplines so that they can excel in the chosen field,” he said.
He informed that Phek District Sports Association is trying to identify young players from the age group of 12, 14 and 16 years so as to train them at a young age. He told the gathering that they are privileged to be a part of the church with leaders who could guide and create an opportunity for them to explore their talents.
“Take note of these opportunities and initiate them in your respective villages so that people out there can learn from you,” he challenged them.
Stating that college and high school are the prime period to learn good and bad things, he pointed out that anyone who leads a disciplined life would succeed in the future. He, therefore, advised them to choose the right path.
Vevoto Dzüdo led the programme, while the associate pastor of CBCMHK, Asüne Demo, pronounced blessings for the sports event.
Altogether, six groups namely Bethel, Beersheba, Bethabara, Bethlehem, Bethesda, and Bethany would compete in various events during the week.
