Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima, conducted a felicitation programme cum award to toppers and selected teachers from catholic schools at Holy Cross Auditorium, Dimapur, on May 13.
Principal Secretary of School Education, Francis P Solo congratulated the principals, teachers and the students of Catholic schools for the outstanding performance in the last board examinations. He expressed sceptical about the last examinations owing to unrest as a fall out of ULB elections adding that even students appeared the exams with great tension.
P Solo also acknowledged the hard works by the principals, teachers and the students in bringing laurels to the schools. He reminded the toppers of the greater responsibilities cast upon them and told them they cannot afford to fail but succeed in whatever they do. The Principal Secretary also talked about having the responsibility of returning to the system when one is in a position to help or contribute to the school as alumni. P Solo finally made an appeal to the Commission for Education, Dieces of Kohima and to the chairman Rev. Dr. James Thoppil to review the pay structure of the teachers as he feels that the private teachers are getting only a fraction of what the government teachers are getting. He said private teachers deserve better salary to have a decent life and to enable them contribute better to the human resource development of the State.
Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, in his presidential message, expressed joy and pride to the respective Catholic schools for their distinctive achievements in this year’s HSLC and HSSLC examinations. He also mentioned that there are hundreds of students who have passed out with honours and distinctions from the catholic schools and other Christian’s schools, who are occupying responsible positions in the government and civil society.
He took the occasion to put a challenge to the future leaders, who will definitely occupy chairs of powers, to feed their souls with moral conscience and moral values that are taught in the schools and be an agent of change.
