KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 23
Captain (Late) Kenguruse MVC All Nagaland Football Tournament organized by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), under the aegis of HQ 3 Corps, commenced today at Kohima Local Ground.
The inaugural function of the tournament was graced by L.L. Doungel, Director General of Police as the chief guest.
Playing the first match of the day, DGP XI beat HQ IGAR (North) by 2-0 to advance to the next round. The DGP XI took the first lead through Saku Temjen, while Ninja scored the second goal to make it 2-0 and sealed the match in favour of DGP XI.
It may be mentioned that the HQ IGAR (North) were the runners-up of the recently concluded Classic Cup 2015. They lost to Barak FC of Peren in the final played on November 20.
In the second match, Abide Club, Kiphire, were given a walk-over as their opponents Shamatore United FC failed to turn up for the scheduled match.In the third match, Falcon FC of Jalukie B’ village blanked Meluri Division, Meluri 6-0 to make it through to the next round of the tournament.
With the victory, Falcon FC will next play against Abide Club, Kiphire on November 25.
Earlier, the chief guest L.L. Doungel in his address said this tournament was organized in honour of the hero of this land and it brings laurel to this state. He urged the players to play with team spirit.
Other matches were also held, on the same day, at Zhadima, Tsiesema and Chiephobozou respectively.
A total of 24 teams are participating in the tournament which will conclude on November 30 at Kohima Local Ground.
