Kohima, Nov. 2 (EMN): Three teams -- Head Hunters, 164 TA Naga, Naga FC, Kohima and Tehok FC, Mon -- won their respective quarter-final matches and entered the semi-finals on the fifth day of the ongoing Capt. Kenguruse MVC Memorial Football Tournament played at the IG Stadium, in Kohima on Saturday, November 2.
Head Hunters entered into the semi-finals after thrashing One Ten FC, Dimapur 6-1.
For Head Hunters, a team of Territorial Army stationed at Jakhama, the win was an icing on the cake with the battalion celebrating its 15th raising day on Saturday. It was also a day for the team’s captain Haotingmang Thomsong too who scored four successive goals in the goal fest.
During the thrilling encounter, Head Hunters started brightly and took an early lead through Mhiesinglhu in the 12th minute.
Seven minutes later, Haotingmang Thomsong doubled the lead. Thomsong went on to score his brace in the 37th minute while he completed his hat-trick in the 40th minute putting the scoreboard at 4-0 in the first half.
Coming back after the breather, Head Hunters’s talisman Thomsong scored his fourth goal in the 53rd minute.
Melalo connected one more goal in the 73rd minute for Head Hunters while the lone goal for One Ten came from the boots of Vifaka Achumi in the 76th minute ending the match 6-1 in favour of Head Hunters.
Two times champions Naga FC, Kohima trounced Pisgah United FC, Tuensang 5 -1 in the second quarter-final match.
In a one-sided game, Naga FC got off to a better start as Hanglen Chan opened the floodgates in the 12th minute and was followed by Dipusa just two minutes later to give a 2-0 lead over Pisgah United in the first half.
The former champions continued to dominate the game as Avilhou Yhome scored a brace in the 41st and 48th minute respectively while Menuosieto added their fifth goal in the 80th to seal the game. The face saver for Pisgah United was scored by Likhomong in the 55th minute.
Tehok FC, Mon continued their good formed and defeated strong IGAR (N) 2-0 in the third quarter-final match.
Awangbo scored for Tehok FC just eight minutes into the match while three minutes later, Zumzum slotted home the second goal to seal off the victory.
Meanwhile, Upper Khomi FC, Phek registered their semi-final berth after they were awarded a walkover on Friday as Nagaland Police and Mokokchung FC failed to turn up for their matches
