DIMAPUR — The Confederation of Apoksah, Phoyisha & Phokhungri Area (CAPPA) has called for immediate action to address several issues with the ongoing two-lane road construction project from Akhegwo to Avakhung under Meluri sub-division of Phek district.
After a tour of the construction site on September 2, CAPPA representatives, including presidents from the Phokhungri Area Public Organisation, Phoyisha Public Organisation, and the Apoksah Range Public Organisation, identified several discrepancies between the work completed and the project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR).
In a letter to the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Deputy General Manager on Thursday, the confederation pointed out that some sections of earth cutting do not reach the right-of-way points as per the DPR, resulting in narrower roads.
“The road must only be constructed on the hard shoulder and not in the loose mud fillings. There must be a vehicle parking provision on both side of the road in all the habitat areas i.e. towns/villages”, the letter stated.

It also raised concerns about inadequate drainage systems and rough, uneven culverts that create hazardous driving conditions. “The contractors must see that the road is levelled evenly after the construction/ installation of the culverts,” it said.
Furthermore, it stressed the need for proper bench cutting in steep areas to maintain the road’s integrity.
The CAPPA, on behalf of the general public, appealed to the NHIDCL Deputy General Manager to look into the matter and direct the contractors to execute the work as per the DPR.
“The CAPPA shall not compromise on the quality-workmanship and timely completion of the road at any cost”, it asserted.
