KOHIMA — The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Capital College Kohima on Monday successfully conducted a teachers’ orientation programme on transformative pedagogy for empowering students.
The orientation aimed to prepare faculty members for the upcoming academic session with a renewed focus on student-centred and outcome-based teaching practices, stated an update from the college, an update stated.
In the first session on ‘Changing goals and objectives of education,’ resource person Opangmenla Jamir, IQAC coordinator, focused on the shifting paradigms in education.
She emphasised how the goals of education are no longer limited to content delivery but now extend to fostering critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and global citizenship.
Jamir also urged teachers to realign their teaching objectives to cater to holistic student development, thereby contributing meaningfully to personal and societal growth.
The second session ‘Practical session on blended pedagogy’ was led by Dr. Rukulu Kezo, Assistant Professor, Department of English, as the resource person.
The session focused on how technology can be integrated effectively into classroom teaching to enhance learning outcomes.
The update stated that the teachers were introduced to simple digital tools and formats such as Google Classroom, WhatsApp, and Google Forms that can be used to complement in-person teaching.
The session provided practical ideas on how classroom time can be used more productively for interaction, discussion, and problem-solving, while content delivery and assignments can be managed digitally.
The orientation concluded with a Q&A session.
The IQAC encouraged all faculty members to incorporate the insights gained into their teaching practice and continue exploring innovative pedagogical approaches for student empowerment.
Earlier, the programme was moderated by Theja Lohe, Assistant Professor, Department of Tenyidie, who opened the session by welcoming the participants and highlighting the importance of adopting transformative approaches in pedagogy to meet the evolving needs of students in today’s education landscape.
