Capital bypass project to be completed by March next year — Kaito Aye
Kaito Aye provided the information in response to a starred question asked by MLA Achumbemo Kikon on Thursday during the 6th Assembly session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly at Kohima.
- KOHIMA — The
construction of the capital bypass from Dimapur to Kohima via Niuland is
expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.
- Minister for Roads and Bridges Kaito Aye provided the
information in response to a starred question asked by MLA Achumbemo Kikon on
Thursday during the 6th Assembly session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative
Assembly at Kohima.
- He cited several reasons for the delay, such as litigation,
alignment changes and forest clearance issues, landowner disputes, and
compensation demands, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic.
- The minister, however, assured that they have settled
everything, and by March 31 next year, the road will be completed.
- He also mentioned that the project is divided into three
segments: package I (0-11 km) allotted to Vilelie Khamo & Sons (INR 30.04
crore), package II (11 km-23 km) allotted to M/s Coal Mines Associated Traders
Pvt. Ltd. (INR 100.99 crore), and package III (23-34.171 km) allotted to
Vilelie Khamo & Sons (INR 98.13 crore).
- PWD meeting with NFHRCC
- Also, Kaito informed that the Public Works Department had a
meeting with the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) on
Wednesday.
- According to him, they arrived at “some understanding,
though it is yet to come to a conclusion.”
- He asserted that the Trans National Highway (Foothill) road
package should not be delayed and an amicable solution must be found.
- He appealed to the NLA members to give the department a
chance to deal with the issue, stating that “lots of wrong remarks have been
put on the government, but we are responsible people running the government, so
we must face the consequences.”
- “If solution does not come, then there is no achievement,
and confrontation cannot bring a solution, so let us all bear the hurdles,” he
said.
