Dimapur, March 12 (EMN): The district election establishment of Kohima met with representatives of political parties on March 12. Updates from the government bulletin IPR on Tuesday stated that the district election officer of Kohima, Anoop Khinchi, briefed the political parties about the Model Code of Conduct for the elections, which he said must be adhered to by the candidates and political party workers.
Khinchi said that the basic purpose of the Code was to create a level playing field where no party should be put to advantage or disadvantage because of muscle or money power in position. The election officer urged them to go through the guidelines given by the Election Commission of India (EC).
The administrator also highlighted the procedures that are required to be followed during the conduct of rallies; prohibition from carrying any weapon etc., to prevent any untoward incident. The official directed the representatives to ‘take care during such rallies,’ the IPR reported.
Likewise, he cautioned them against defacement of public building by the candidates or political workers; this regulation is to be adhered to as directed by the EC.
In matters concerning funds and expenditure, Khinchi said expenditure accounts were important. The meeting deliberated on the rate chart for Kohima district for the Election Expenditure Monitoring and decided to approve it for the election expenditure account, the IPR stated.
The gathering was informed about the EC discouraging the use of plastic materials. The election officer urged them not to use any plastic materials but to opt for some environment-friendly materials.
“He also informed on the directive given by the ECI on voter slip, stating that the voter slip would not be accepted as sole prove of identity this time and requested the political parties to take the matter seriously and propagate the information to everyone to produce EPIC or any of the eleven documents mentioned by the ECI on the polling day,” the IPR stated.
