KOHIMA — Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Thursday inaugurated the a new branch of Canara Bank at New Secretariat Road, Kohima, in the presence of Lok Nath, CO head and General Manager, Circle Office, Guwahati, and other officials.
In his address, the advisor requested Canara Bank officials to extend Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to school children in Nagaland state as well.
Canara being the third largest public banking sector in the country, Yhome also suggested the bank to make its banking system flexible so that entrepreneurs and business people from Nagaland can avail loans, and not only the government employees.
He also mentioned that financial literacy is something many Nagas still need to learn, and so the government is approaching people to start financial entrepreneurial literacy in Nagaland.
He urged the bank to focus on financial literacy, particularly for farmers, and expand its presence in the state by opening more branches.
Lok Nath highlighted about the various services and products provided by the bank. He updated that at present Canara Bank is operating more than 10,000 branches and 11,000 ATMs across the country.

The bank official shared that there are four regional offices in the North East Region serving the seven states. He confirmed they're offering all types of products and services in the new branch.

He maintained that the new branch in Kohima is not merely a brick-and-mortar structure but it is a commitment to respect local culture, understand local aspirations, and grow together with the people of Nagaland.
As one of India’s leading public sector banks with a vast national presence, he claimed that they continue to serve millions of customers with integrity, transparency, and compassion. “While this branch will provide all general banking services, its primary strategic focus is to garner government deposits and strengthen our partnership with government departments and institutions,” Jayaraman said.
“Located near the Civil Secretariat, this branch is ideally positioned to serve as a trusted financial backbone for government operations, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and seamless public finance management”, he added.
Assistant General Manager and Dibugarh regional head, Nabarun Basak, also maintained that Canara Bank is one of the top public sector banks and that they are expanding and reaching out to people with their motto ‘to grow together.’ He also claimed that Canara Bank’s digital applications are recognised as one of the best.
